WA 'LONG LUNCH' WEEKEND

FRIDAY                

It’s the WA Labour Day long weekend and all roads lead to Albany & Mt Barker for a gastronomic escape in Australia’s newest tourism region, ‘The Amazing South Coast’.  The beautiful Porongorup region is your perfect base to enjoy this weekend’s festival events.  A choice of accommodation is available and the friendly team at the Mt Barker Visitor Centre can assist with recommendations.

SATURDAY            

Start your morning with a scrumptious breakfast at the Porongurup Tea Rooms. Established in 1937. The tearooms capture the delightful, village atmosphere of the Porongorup community. The long weekend is the perfect opportunity to explore the region’s cellar doors  and artisan galleries of the region as you explore the picturesque backroads.    

SUNDAY    

There’s nothing like an early morning walk, so why not visit the renowned Granite Skywalk today.  The summit offers a spectacular walkway around Castle Rock and takes approximately 60 minutes to reach from the main carpark. Medium level fitness is required for this one and the view is worth the effort. Later in the day, head off to the 2018 Porongorup Wine Festival*  at Karridale.  2018 sees the Porongurup Wine Festival enjoying it's 30th year Anniversary. Enjoy a day of live music, fine wines, local food stalls and entertainment. Watch culinary creations in the making at the One Wok Wonder and cooking demonstrations with celebrity chefs.  Join one of the fun Wine Masterclasses. Grab a friend and compete in the Grape Stomping competition for fantastic prizes.

MONDAY              

Before heading home today, why not take a short half hour drive south to Albany to explore some of the regions tourism icons including the National Anzac Centre and ‘The Gap & Natural Bridge’ at Torndirrup National Park with its dramatic views over the Southern Ocean. Now that’s a great long weekend!

DENMARK 'SIP & SEA' WEEKEND

FRIDAY                 

Picturesque Denmark plays host to this weekend’s getaway and provides the base for an amazing weekend, celebrating the regions outstanding wines and local produce.  It all kicks off with an evening of fun at the Rockcliffe Night Market* at Rockcliffe Winery. Join local food producers selling directly to the public with local artisans and a fabulous variety of performing artists. SATURDAY            

Mornings in Denmark start with great coffee. Quaint cafes catering for all tastes can be found within a short walk of each other between Strickland St and Mt Shadforth Road. One of the most popular venues is the Award winning Mrs Jones café. Mrs Jones is ‘fresh, fun and flirtatious!’ You’ll need a hearty breakfast to explore Denmark’s wineries today. In recent years, Denmark's wine has taken Australia's wine shows by storm with exceptional riesling, chardonnay, shiraz, cabernet and pinot noir. Drop into the Denmark Visitor Centre to collect your Denmark Food & Wine Trail map and start exploring.

SUNDAY           

Today is all about the Amazing South Coast & the incredible seafood of the region. Denmark is blessed with a pristine coastline on the edge of stunning forests and is the gateway to one of Western Australia’s most photographed beaches, Greens Pool, a pristine stop en-route to Albany. Our feature festival event today is ‘In The Raw’* at Emu Point Boat Harbour. Taste the bounty of the Southern Ocean including a welcome glass of sparkling and a freshly shucked oyster, followed by seafood tasting plates and paired wines – simply scrumptious!

MONDAY      

Time to head home today, but still time to visit one last icon. The Tree Top Walk is located between Denmark and Walpole. Experience the excitement of walking 40 metres high through the canopy of the tingle forest and enjoy the majestic views to stunning wilderness areas of The Amazing South Coast. Nothing like ending your Denmark weekend on a high!

A star-studded lineup of celebrity chef’s will be on show this weekend at the 2018 IGA Taste Great Southern and there is so much to see!  Albany provides the base for an amazing weekend, celebrating the regions outstanding wines and local produce. This evening’s bespoke event is the Long Table Whiskey Dinner*. Sip and savour the flavours of the Great Southern with Cameron Syme, Master Distiller at Limeburners and Chef Stuart Laws at the Great Southern Distilling's cellar door. Tickets for this event are strictly limited.

SATURDAY        

Stirling Terrace in Albany is the place for great coffee and a hearty breakfast this morning to prepare you for a day of food exploration.  Visit the Albany Farmers Market and meet the local producers.  On offer is a huge range of the very freshest seasonally available fruits, vegetables, farmed meat, dairy, cheese, fish, seafood and much more all from the Great Southern growing region.  At midday, join us at the Albany Wine & Food Festival* with special guest Marco Pierre White appearing on the cooking demonstration stage with three local chefs, as they put together a demonstration of three courses.  For a special treat, don’t miss the Fervor Long Table Dinner at Middelton Beach*.

SUNDAY         

Sleep in on Sunday morning. Today is just the day for a leisurely lunch.  Join us for a five-course Long Table Lunch With A View* with five varietals from Singlefile Wines and regionally focused food to match from Chef Sally Francis of Runes. Sit back and relax overlooking Albany’s Shoal Bay, while enjoying an entertaining degustation lunch.

MONDAY              

It’s your last morning in beautiful Albany. There’s just enough time to explore some of the regions tourism icons including the National Anzac Centre and ‘The Gap & Natural Bridge’ at Torndirrup National Park with its dramatic views over the Southern Ocean. THURSDAY

Your ultimate gastronomic week on the Amazing South Coast begins in Albany with A Secret Affair!*  Be taken on a short journey and discover fantastic regional produce prepared Asian fusion style by our guest, Indonesia’s Chef Chandra Yudasswara. At the Secret Affair, enjoy local produce made with Asian flavours and matched with the wines of the Great Southern in a venue you will only find out about on the night! This is bound to be a feast to remember.

FRIDAY

Plan to spend your day exploring Albany, enjoying some of the region’s most incredible views. Head out to Torndirrup National Park to experience the incredible viewing platform at ‘The Gap’ and Natural Bridge. It’s then just a short drive to visit Albany’s Historic Whaling Station; a living time-capsule of Albany’s history and the only complete whaling station accessible to tourists, in the world. Heading back into Albany, follow the scenic route up to the Albany Heritage Park to visit the National Anzac Centre and discover the story of Albany’s unique connection to the Anzac legend. Time for a pre-dinner drink? There are great bars and restaurants to choose from at Middleton Beach. Overnight Albany.

SATURDAY  

Sleep in on Saturday morning before checking out and heading west to Denmark. Today is just the day for a leisurely lunch. Take a scenic drive, stopping at the beautiful bays in William Bay National Park and through the pristine forrest on Scotsdale Road to arrive at The Lakehouse Denmark. Enjoy award winning wines and VinoFood by the lake. A perfect finish to your amazing day in Denmark is a peaceful cruise on the Denmark River. Sit back relax and enjoy the views of Denmark from the Wilson inlet whilst viewing birdlife, islands and interesting history.   

SUNDAY              

Start your morning with breakfast in one of Denmark’s quaint cafes before taking a stroll through the village, exploring the artisan craft galleries. Drop into the Visitor Centre to collect your Denmark Wine Trail map, showcasing the regions bespoke cellar doors and food producers. After a day of exploring, you’ll need to leave some room for a Burger, Bubbles & Passion* dinner at Elephant Rock Cider. Enjoy Gourmet burgers, local marron, funky ciders, gooey toffee and live music. Overnight Denmark.

MONDAY      

Your last day on the Amazing South Coast takes you from Denmark to the wine growing region of Mt Barker.  The experience of the bespoke vineyards of the Mt Barker and Porongorup region, treats visitors to an authentic interaction with the winemakers, together with incredible wines. Take a visit to Castle Rock with its stunning viewing platform, overlooking the Stirling Ranges is an absolute must. A moderate level of fitness is recommended.
