It is no surprise to me or those who love the region, to see Great Southern Shiraz shine in Ray Jordan’s just announced Top 100 Reds for 2018. Being involved with Taste Great Southern for a few years now, I truly believe it is a producer of world class wines with Shiraz, Riesling and Pinot Noir heading the list.
Forest Hill won the top gong “Best of the Best” with its Mount Barker Shiraz 2017 with 96 points and valued at $30. Others of note included Houghton 2015 Crofters Shiraz sourced from Frankland River, Howard Park 2015 Flint Rock Shiraz – a blend from Frankland and Mount Barker.
Other wineries to be recognised were Castelli, Silkwood Estate, West Cape Howe, Singlefile, Rockcliffe, Frankland Estate and Castle Rock with Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Shiraz Malbec varietals.

If you can’t get to the Great Southern region to try some of their amazing wines, make sure you look out for it when you are in your favourite wine store.
To experience the region and the wineries we suggest you put 4 – 14 April 2019 in your diary as a must visit destination for the annual Taste Great Southern festival where you can enjoy the wines available, amazing food and take in the beautiful natural attractions.
