A Taste of the Great Southern (Wine)
During the recent Spring Tour for Taste Great Southern we enjoyed a regional tasting at Singlefile Wines which showed off the five wine sub-regions. Great Southern produce some of the best wines in Australia and boasts a diverse range of terroir, ensuring the wines all have the opportunity to develop their own character. The Riesling, shiraz and Pinot Noir especially, are all well worth having a few of in your cellar.
As an understanding, here is what we enjoyed from the sub-regions, all with their own distinct style.
Frankland River; Alkoomi 2011 Jarrah Shiraz and Frankland Estate 2016 Isolation Ridge Riesling.
Porongurup; Zarephath 2016 Pinot Noir and Castle Rock 2016 Riesling
Albany; Wignalls 2015 Pinot Noir and Willoughby Park 2016 Iron Rock Chardonnay
Mount Barker; West Cape Howe 2014 Bookends Cabernet Sauvignon and Forest Hill 2014 Block 1 Riesling
Denmark; Singlefile 2016 Chardonnay and Estate 807 2014 Pinot Noir
All provided a great tasting experience and better profiled what the regions are about. You can enjoy these wines a few ways! Find them at your better liquor outlets, go online or take the time to explore the region itself between 8 and 25 March in 2018!
