Taste Great Southern March 18 – April 3 2016

We have just spent the week checking out locations and options for the final program for the 2016 Taste Great Southern festival, which will be held over 17 days and packed full of things to do for people who love their food and wine. The offerings will include some favourites and we are also excited with the new additions being planned!

Great Southern boasts some of the best wine sub-regions in the country including Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mt Barker and Porongorup and is highly regarded for its Riesling and Shiraz, but do not stop there as the range and quality of wine varietals is superb. Even some of the newer natural wines are worth a taste.

Along with the wine, the region has fantastic produce ranging from the paddocks of the hinterland to the southern oceans. The food events will include offerings from land and sea with seasonal produce to the fore. Local chefs and restaurants are proud to promote local fare and you can be assured it will be fresh!

Over the coming months we will feature some of the venues on display, and were impressed with the pride taken at Due South on the harbour in Albany with their focus on fresh and local. They cure and age all their meats and even have a mill set up (pictured) which was imported from Austria to produce their own bread products for the tables. Due South will host an open public event as well as a degustation dinner.

The event program will be released in early December along with chefs who will be attending.
