BIOGRAPHY

Matthew is a 25-year-old baritone from Perth, a recent graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD). He is heading to study a year on a scholarship from the University of Wales to the Welsh International Academy of Voice with internationally renowned vocal pedagogue Dennis O’Neill in September 2021, which was delayed because of COVID-19. In 2020 Matthew was the recipient of the Artsong Perth Evelyn and Ralph Thompson Scholarship, winning first prize and the audience prize. He was the runner up in the 2020 IFAC Australian Singing Competition (online due to COVID-19). He played the role of The Emperor in West Australian Opera’s return to the stage production of The Nightingale.


In 2019 Matthew performed the roles of Don Giovanni, Belcore (L’elisir d’amore) and Billy Budd for Guildhall School of Music and Drama Opera Scenes, as well as being a semi-finalist in the Australian Singing Competition. He has performed at Wigmore Hall in a Schubertiade with Graham Johnson and in the UK Premier of Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking opposite Joyce Didonato.
